Tell us a little bit about your business
My name is Nicky from KG Photography Ltd.
We’ve been in business for over 25 years, and while it’s a successful company, I firmly believe that staying current means continuously learning and adapting. To remain relevant, it’s essential to keep up with new technology, move with the times, and engage with people outside your own industry. That’s how you learn, grow, and ensure your business continues to stand out.
What support did you seek to help your business grow and develop?
Retail Expert, Karen Williamson.
What was the nature of the support they provided?
Karen is a supercharged businesswoman. She is charismatic, engaging and highly professional. Karen taught me how to produce a SWOT analysis, sales funnel, Good Better Best pricing approach, brand awareness and appraise our current website & social media.
What are your plans for the future in the shorter and longer term?
Short term:
I’ve had a follow-up meeting with Karen after completing the BIPC CityLife funding and continue to take her advice on developing the business. We’re reviewing which areas of photography are most profitable, exploring ways to increase sales and repeat business, re-engaging with inactive clients, and attracting new customers. We’re also in discussions with a social media specialist to help boost our brand awareness and online presence.
Long term:
Our goal is to redesign the website to better reflect our brand, showcase our latest work, and make it easier for clients to learn about our services and get in touch.
What is your advice for those who are thinking of starting their own business?
Start by creating a clear plan of what you want to achieve and who you want to work with. Take time to understand your brand — what it stands for and what makes it different. Network as much as possible, seek advice from others, and don’t be afraid to ask questions. Most importantly, listen carefully to the answers, even if you don’t always agree — that’s often where the best learning happens.
The BIPC is an excellent resource for anyone starting a new business or looking to keep an existing one current and profitable. Their support, advice, and training can make a real difference at every stage of your business journey.
