Gateshead couple Gillian Hauxwell and Simon Evans have created an exciting new game called Strong Point, a card based trivia/quiz game set for release in late November through their own new company Strong Point Games Ltd.

The couple from Crawcrook, in Gateshead, have created and designed every aspect of the game themselves, from forming the new company, to designing the game and the website, and writing 1200 trivia questions for the game. The couple came up with the idea for the game during the Covid lockdown of the summer of 2020, and have spent over a year developing the idea.

Gillian said: “During lockdown, like many people, we played lots of games and did family quiz nights over Zoom
and started to think of our own ideas for a game. Strong Point started out as ‘I think this would make a fun game’ and after lots of thought we began to look at how to make it a reality”.

Having spent several months discussing ideas, often while out running, and testing them on friends and family,
the game developed into Strong Point, a trivia game, which as it says on the box, is not just about what you know but who knows what you know!

The premise of the idea is simple but unique: a player answers 5 questions on a category and the other players secretly predict how many that player will get right, based on whether they think it is the player’s Strong Point!

In order for the game to become reality the couple sought help from BIPC North East & PNE Enterprise, business support services in Newcastle, who helped and guided them through the process of starting up their new enterprise, and also helped them acquire funding from Transmit Startups.

Adam Clements, Business Advisor at Gateshead’s Transmit Startups, said: “Gillian and Simon’s business is a great example of the brilliant ideas that have been born out of the pandemic by people across the UK.

We’ve seen a huge surge in entrepreneurship, with demand for our startup and mentoring services increasing 60% compared to last year. It was a pleasure to support such an awesome couple who wanted to create and run a business together and I can’t wait to hear of their success.”

Now the first copies of their brand new game are with the manufacturers and the couple are preparing for the game to be listed on Amazon later this month. Strong Point is being made entirely in the UK, using two companies based in the North of England.

Strong Point Games Ltd don’t intend to rest on their laurels, and already have plans for expansion packs and Special Editions of the game, and are even planning to release the game internationally
and printed in other languages further into the future.
